China today sent three astronauts to its Tiangong space station, putting a civilian into orbit for the first time as it pursues plans to send a crewed mission to the Moon by the end of the decade.
The Shenzhou-16 manned spaceship, atop a Long March-2F carrier rocket, blasted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on 9:31 am Beijing Time on Tuesday.
The launch was a "complete success" and the "astronauts are in good condition", said Zou Lipeng, director of the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.
Leading the crew is commander Jing Haipeng on his fourth mission, as well as engineer Zhu Yangzhu and Beihang University professor Gui Haichao, the first Chinese civilian in space.
The crew will witness the dockings of the Tianzhou-5 cargo craft and the Shenzhou-17 manned spaceship, as well as the departures of the Shenzhou-15 manned spaceship and Tianzhou-5.
The Shenzhou-16 astronauts will conduct large-scale in-orbit tests and experiments in various fields as planned. They are expected to make high-level scientific achievements in the study of novel quantum phenomena, high-precision space time-frequency systems, the verification of general relativity, and the origin of life.
China was the third country to put humans in orbit, and Tiangong is the crown jewel of its space program, which has also landed robotic rovers on Mars and the Moon.
Shenzhou-16 is the first mission to Tiangong since it entered its "application and development" stage, authorities said.
据中国载人航天工程办公室消息，北京时间2023年5月30日9时31分，搭载神舟十六号载人飞船的长征二号F遥十六运载火箭在酒泉卫星发射中心点火发射，约10分钟后，神舟十六号载人飞船与火箭成功分离，进入预定轨道，航天员乘组状态良好，发射取得圆满成功。
此次任务是我国载人航天工程进入空间站应用与发展阶段的首次载人飞行任务，是工程立项实施以来的第29次发射任务，也是长征系列运载火箭的第475次飞行。
目前，空间站组合体已进入交会对接轨道，工作状态良好，满足与神舟十六号载人飞船交会对接和航天员进驻条件。
据中国载人航天工程办公室介绍，飞船入轨后，将按照预定程序与空间站组合体进行自主快速交会对接，神舟十六号航天员乘组将与神舟十五号航天员乘组进行在轨轮换。在空间站工作生活期间，神舟十六号航天员乘组将进行出舱活动，开展空间科学实（试）验，完成舱内外设备安装、调试、维护维修等各项任务。
29日神舟十六号载人飞行任务新闻发布会上，中国载人航天工程新闻发言人、载人航天工程办公室副主任林西强介绍，神舟十六号乘组的特点可以用“全、新、多”三个字来概括。一是“全”，首次包含了“航天驾驶员、航天飞行工程师、载荷专家”3个类型的航天员；二是“新”，第三批航天员首次执行飞行任务，同时，也是航天飞行工程师和载荷专家首次执行飞行任务；三是“多”，航天员景海鹏是第四次执行飞行任务，将是中国目前为止“飞天”次数最多的航天员。
按计划，神舟十六号载人飞船入轨后，将采用自主快速交会对接模式，对接于天和核心舱径向端口，形成三舱三船组合体。在轨驻留期间，将完成与神舟十五号乘组在轨轮换，驻留约5个月，开展空间科学与应用载荷在轨实（试）验，实施航天员出舱活动及货物气闸舱出舱，进行舱外载荷安装及空间站维护维修等任务，计划于今年11月返回东风着陆场。
目前，神舟十五号乘组正在紧张有序开展神舟十六号乘组进驻和神舟十五号飞船返回前的各项准备工作。神舟十六号乘组在轨期间，将迎来两次对接和撤离返回，即神舟十五号载人飞船返回、天舟五号货运飞船的再对接和撤离以及神舟十七号载人飞船对接。
Chinese authorities have issued a plan to explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR) and other technologies to improve experimental teaching, among a series of measures aimed at strengthening scientific education for primary and secondary school students, said a document jointly issued by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and other 17 central government departments on Monday. The guideline suggests providing facilities, equipment, books and software to assist in the construction of science education settings for areas and schools with less developed infrastructure, in addition to exploring the use of AI, VR and other technologies to help enhance experimental teaching and make up for the shortage of quality education and teaching resources. Schools should also fully launch science courses in accordance with prescribed curriculum plans, revise and improve the curriculum standards and teaching materials.
探索利用人工智能等加强科学教育：29日，教育部等十八部门制定的《关于加强新时代中小学科学教育工作的意见》正式发布，从课程教材、实验教学、师资培养、实践活动、条件保障等方面强化顶层设计，充分整合校内外资源，推进学校主阵地与社会大课堂有机衔接，为中小学生提供更加优质的科学教育。其中提出，探索利用人工智能、虚拟现实等技术手段改进和强化实验教学，弥补优质教育教学资源不足的状况。《意见》要求，要改进学校教学与服务。按照课程方案开齐开足开好科学类课程，修订完善课程标准及教材，同时将教辅书纳入监管体系。强化实验教学，并广泛组织中小学生前往科学教育场所，进行场景式、体验式科学实践活动。为薄弱地区、薄弱学校援建科学教育场所，提供设备、器材、图书、软件等，并探索利用人工智能、虚拟现实等技术手段改进和强化实验教学，弥补优质教育教学资源不足的状况。

A China-Africa cross-border yuan settlement center has opened in Yiwu, the world's largest wholesale market for small commodities, in East China's Zhejiang Province, according to the official WeChat account of the Yiwu government on Monday. The center will expand the cross-border yuan settlement business in Africa, strengthen the cooperation with branches of Chinese banks and financial institutions in Africa, establish cross-border yuan settlement channels and explore cross-border asset transfer and interbank purchases and sales.
中非跨境人民币结算中心义乌揭牌：日前，中非跨境人民币结算中心在义乌浙江稠州商业银行揭牌。中非跨境人民币结算中心成立后，将拓展非洲跨境人民币结算业务，加强与中资银行在非分支机构、境外金融机构的跨境人民币业务合作，建立跨境人民币清算结算渠道，探索跨境资产转让、人民币同业购售等业务。目前，常驻义乌的非洲客商近2000人，2022年义乌对非洲进出口840.2亿元，增长10.2%。2022年，义乌跨境人民币结算565.4亿元，同比增长56.23%。

China will take brain-computer interface (BCI) as an important direction in developing future industry, and the country has formed an entire industry chain covering basic (research), technological and application layers, with applications already launched in such fields as medicine, education, industry and entertainment, said Zhao Zhiguo, chief engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), on Monday. The comment was made at a forum during the ongoing 2023 Zhongguancun (ZGC) Forum. "China has been proactively pushing for BCI industry development. The country has made breakthroughs in key BCI projects and nurtured a number of leading BCI innovative enterprises. It also has built a BCI industrial alliance with more than 100 members across the industrial chain," Zhao said during the forum. The comment has prompted related firms on China’s A-share market to rally for a second day today, with a couple of stocks hitting the daily limit-up.
脑机接口概念站上风口：5月30日，脑机接口板块继续狂飙，多只个股涨停。消息面上，5月29日，工信部总工程师赵志国在2023中关村论坛上表示，工信部把脑机接口作为培育未来产业发展的重要方向，加强脑机接口应用场景的探索，加速推动脑机接口产业的蓬勃发展。赵志国介绍，我国已经形成覆盖基础层、技术层与应用层的脑机接口全产业链，并在医疗、教育、工业、娱乐等领域应用落地。此前，国内已成立了脑机接口产业联盟，目前已经有百余家涉及产业和研究的机构。
China announced on Tuesday that it will raise the price of retail oil in reaction to global markets, with the National Development Reform Commission (NDRC) saying that the price of gasoline and diesel will increase by 100 yuan and 95 yuan on the metric ton, respectively, effective midnight today. Private car owners will then see their gas bills rise by about 4 yuan to refill a 50-liter tank.

China welcomes Elon Musk and other business leaders to visit China and promotes mutual beneficial cooperation, a foreign ministry spokesperson said a regular news conference today. Elon Musk’s private jet was seen to have landed in Beijing on Tuesday in what would be the billionaire’s first visit to China in three years. The Tesla CEO is expected to meet with senior government officials during his visit, as well as tour Gigafactory Shanghai, Tesla’s electric vehicle factory in China, media reported.

Pony.ai, a Chinese autonomous driving startup, will start offering unmanned transport services with Jin Jiang International Holdings' taxi unit, one of the biggest taxi firms in Shanghai. Poni.ai and the subsidiary of the state-owned operator of Jinjiang Hotel and Peace Hotel are now qualified to carry out demo operations of a robotaxi service in the city, Pony.ai announced today. The tests will be done on nearly 1,100 kilometers of open roads in Shanghai's Jiading district.

Kangtai Biological Products is teaming up with a leading Indian drugmaker to retail and distribute the Chinese vaccine maker’s 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate jab, in the South Asian country. Unit Minhai Biotech has recently penned a licensing agreement with the unnamed Indian drugmaker, which is one of the oldest and biggest pharmaceutical firms in India with 26 subsidiaries and over 2,000 distribution centers, the Shenzhen-based company said yesterday.

The New Development Bank, the multilateral lender set up by the BRICS nations, has issued a three-year 8.5 billion yuan panda bond in the China Interbank Bond Market. The net proceeds from the sale of the bond will be used as general corporate resources of the NDB and to finance infrastructure and sustainable development projects that benefit its member countries and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the lender said in a statement late yesterday.
新开发银行成功发行85亿元人民币熊猫债券：5月29日，新开发银行 (NDB) 在中国银行间债券市场成功发行85亿元人民币熊猫债，超过了新开发银行此前70亿元人民币的单笔最大的熊猫债发行规模。通过此次交易，新开发银行在中国银行间债券市场建立了新的熊猫债债券基准。本期债券的募集资金将为新开发银行支持的基础设施和可持续发展项目提供融资，支持成员国发展和促进实现可持续发展目标。

Chinese stocks rebounded on Tuesday afternoon after hitting a 5-month low in the morning session. The benchmark Shanghai Composite edged up 0.1 percent and the Shenzhen Component gained 0.4 percent. Hong Kong stocks finished slightly higher after four days of big losses, with the Hang Seng index up 0.2 percent, and the TECH index jumped 1.5 percent.
